The West Africa container trades are poised for continued growth, driven by strong economic expansion and a rapidly growing population. The potential for this resource-rich region is huge. Since 2014, substantial development in the West Africa container infrastructure has led to the creation of new container terminals capable of handling all but the largest of containerships
The West Africa container trade
These developments have reshaped how West Africa is served by the carriers, over and above the deployment of larger ships. This is not only with the evolution of a local hub and spoke system but also a change in the emphasis of the intercontinental shipping services. While traditional markets remain directly connected, relay services are playing an increasingly important role.
The trade capacity model
Dynamar’s trade capacity modelling system provides an in-depth analysis on which carriers deploy how much trade capacity on which trade lanes, and how much of this capacity can be allocated to individual ports. The report surveys and profiles each shipping line offering container shipping services to, from, and within West Africa. Additionally, estimates are made on the Annual Trade Capacity they allocate to each of the trades and ports.
