Adjusting to New Realities

Dynamar’s latest annual review, titled ‘Adjusting to New Realities’, provides an analysis of developments in the container shipping industry in the past year and a brief look into the future. It serves as a natural follow on from 2022’s ‘Age of Transitions’, which suggested that several fundamental aspects of the container sector would be noticeably different in a relatively short space of time. Some of this transition has been driven by circumstance, such as the Ukraine/Russia conflict and Israel/Hamas/Houthi/Red Sea situation. These events have led to temporary workarounds within the container shipping system, many of which are exhibiting degrees of permanence. As a result, what were once considered ‘abnormal’ situations are now the new ‘normal’. Additionally, we are seeing the embedding of other new realities. Accelerated by both new and upcoming regulations, plus a push from the shippers’ sector, the energy transition is now a reality, despite still having teething problems.
