The 4,250 TEU “ZIM Kingston”, operated by ZIM and owned by Danaos Shipping,
suffered a severe incident off the coast of Canada when two containers caught
fire. At least 109 containers went overboard, two of which contained potassium
amyl xanthate, a flammable, toxic substance used in mining. The ship, carrying
almost 2,000 boxes, is now anchored approximately five miles offshore waiting
to remove or secure damaged boxes.
