The Ro/Ro shipping market

For Dynamar’s latest study into the Roll-on/Roll-off shipping trades, this comprising both the vehicle carrier (or PCTC) element and the ‘conventional’ element, the combined Ro/Ro fleet approached 1,300 vessels and exceeded 21 million deadweight tons. However, the balance was very much in favour of the vehicle carriers (PCTCs). They provided nearly 790 of the ships, equivalent to more than 60%. Alongside, they accounted for nearly 14.0 million deadweight tons of capacity. In other words, two-thirds. These figures gave them an average of 18,000-dwt against the 14,000-dwt of the conventional sector.

.

Concentration and fragmentation

Within these high level figures, underlying the fleets are their commercial operators. The PCTC sector is clearly concentrated as the ten largest carriers account for 80% of capacity. For the conventional sector, the share is only 35%.

.

Going forward, the gap between the two will only grow. To see what the future of their fleets promises, plus other themes that are explored in the study at both a sector and individual corporate level, order your copy today.
